What I’ve Learned About Internet Marketing From Watching TV (#1)

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

By Kenneth Doyle There are principles of marketing, and there are marketing strategies. The principles of marketing have never changed. However, marketing strategies change all the time to reflect the marketing medium in which they’re being used… and the products and services the marketers are selling. One core marketing principle is to arouse curiosity within the target market by using a benefit laden “Preview” (or teaser) technique. There is a LOT one can learn about marketing on the Internet - and the use of this curiosity/ teaser technique - by watching TV. How does one do this? Watch TV sports shows. These TV sports shows clearly demonstrate this time perfected, well established (preview/ teaser) technique which has been used in marketing for decades. Other versions of this technique were/ are used in radio The technique is also used regularly by TV news programs, soap operas, and (in a different way) with newsprint. This technique is called the PREview (or teaser) ‘technique’. Take a sports show for example. Before the show the station will run clips which “preview” what’s coming up in the sports show. When the sports show starts the hosts will “preview” what’s going to happen during the show. This technique is used again during the show (usually before the commercials) to preview what is coming up after the commercial (to keep the viewer watching the program). The preview/ teaser technique will be used again at the end of the show to tell the viewer what’s going to happen in the next show. This time it’s used to get them to come back to the next show, or it’s used as an end-of-program preview to direct the viewer to another (theme related) TV show on the same network. So, how can you use this preview/ teaser technique with your own Internet marketing campaigns? The primary way to use this technique is by using articles. These can be articles you use in your own ezine, blog or articles which you write and then submit to article directories (for exposure across the net). Here’s how you structure your article using this tried and tested preview/ teaser technique. Preview 1: Your article headline needs to be intriguing and contain a benefit for the reader (so they’ll open the article and read it). Preview 2: Tell your readers (up front) what you’re going to tell them. Again, this ‘preview’ needs to be benefit laden, so people read the entire article. Preview 3: Within the body of your article (if you’re using it in an ezine and running sponsored ads) refer to the benefit which is coming up (after the ad). Again you want to keep your reader ‘on the page’. Preview 4: This can be your sig (resource) file. Again, refer to an ‘additional’ benefit (for the reader) when they click on the link in your resource file. People have read your article and you want to keep them within your ’sphere of influence’ as long as possible. The interesting thing about this “preview” technique is that the same technique works exceptionally well when one is lecturing on a topic. In this case a 3 step format is used, being… 1. Tell them what you’re going to tell them (in your lecture), 2. Tell them (about the topic), 3, Tell them what you’ve just told them (in your lecture). Perhaps this “preview” technique is not so much an invention of marketing but more so an aspect of Human neurology (because the attention span of an average individual is about 20 minutes). Whatever the reason, this “preview” technique works! How To Get Rid of Back Fat

Monday, January 28th, 2008

By Robin Derry When it comes to back fat “what you can’t see” will make a difference. Who’s going to slip into a bikini or wear a body-hugging outfit when rolls of back fat cascade over the straps? How do most of us reach that point, where we’ve overwhelmed our body’s ability to limit body fat accumulation? Our convenience culture, gadget rich and free-time-poor sets us up for diets and lifestyle that do everything to retard our body image goals. Lacking time away from family and work responsibilities, we can’t stop the slippery-slope-slide of our bodies into middle-aged doughboy shape. Result? We wake up to find ourselves slowing down, sporting saddle bag hips, a big stomach, hand-grip love handles, sagging loose skin, rolls and mounds of back fat to add to our rapidly expanding pear shape body. Get Rid of Fat On Lower Back. People investigating appearance changes and body contouring options typically reveal a fat tummy which spread body fat gains around their trunk, adding inner thigh fat, breast fat and of course layers of back fat. Treating back fat alone, without addressing neighboring fat deposits is the body sculpting equivalent of driving with half an engine. * Setting Achievable Body Contouring Goals. First thing to do is to establish clear realistic body shaping goals. Your pear shape body didn’t happen overnight, so you’ll want to manage the change process carefully with an eye on not just body shape results but also on health risks and costs. * How Liposuction Offers Safe Quick Way To Get Rid Of Fat On Lower Back. Liposuction performed by a board certified surgeon has become the gold standard for back fat reduction. Tried and proven, with hundreds of thousands of satisfied patients, liposuction can scoop out up to 8 to 10 pounds of pure fat from a treatment site in a single session in less than two hours. Yes, there’s a recovery time, perhaps some down time away from work, but you’re getting the ultimate in convenient quick-fixes for your back fat woes. * How To Lose Back Fat With Non Surgical Treatments. Surgery is serious stuff, and where possible should be avoided. Biggest growth trend in body enhancement and cosmetic body shaping is in the area of non surgical treatments for reducing back fat. Some high tech options have slipped into the consumer’s choice-bag, including radio frequency and ultrasound devices, which beam controlled energy into your below-the-surface (sub dermal) areas, targeting fat cells in particular. The advantages of these non surgical non invasive treatments is that they’re low impact, you won’t experience much down time, minor discomfort occurs during treatment, yet you might successfully get rid of several pounds of back fat during your treatment sessions. Back Fat Exercise That Burns Fat Yet Builds Fitness. Quick-fix cosmetic medical procedures are only one angle on how to lose back fat. You’ve got to deal the entire deck of cards and recognize that old fashioned diet and exercise not only work to reduce back fat, but this Dynamic Duo will launch your body into a future of invigorating good health, and free you up from the “dragging anchor” of excess body fat and sagging skin. What are some possibilities that are achievable? * Low Impact Striding And Walking. You may not realize it but your body’s natural cycles can be manipulated in order to trigger higher rates of back fat burning. Take for example the simple idea of doing a light 20-minute walk, at a low regular pace and without raising your heart rate significantly or even breaking a sweat. Current science suggests that for most people, this sort of low-key low stress walk-about primarily uses “fat” as your energy source. Reason? Your body naturally deletes its glycogen reserves while you sleep, in anticipation of a refueling breakfast. Back fat, arm fat, stomach fat all will start to trim, step by step. * Creative Blends Of Yoga, Dance, Strength And Ballet For Burning Back Fat. “Use it or lose it” is motto with meaning. In the body-contouring world, exciting new “hybrid” exercise programs have emerged, such as Yoga Booty Ballet, for women and men. You’ll get one element of yoga, another element of stretching, ballet moves to stretch and strengthen your body, strength poses to begin reinvesting muscle tone, meditation to regain mental focus, and some thigh-slapping great music to guide you into a shapelier body. Burn back fat? Absolutely. Women and men who’ve used Yoga Booty Ballet report losing 10 to 20 pounds or more, 10 to 18 inches off their waist stomach and hips. Indoor Gardening Tips For Healthy Plants

Sunday, January 27th, 2008

By Mary Hanna Bring nature inside and start an indoor garden to make your home more colorful, but be careful to follow these indoor gardening tips. Plants are so soothing to look at and many indoor gardeners feel that they add that extra little spark to any room. An added benefit is that plants are nature’s purifier, taking carbon dioxide out of our air and changing it into oxygen cleansing the air in your home. Mix up your plants; try a few exotics or tropical plants, anything you choose will make your room shine with their fresh beauty and their colorful blooms. To maintain their beauty here are some indoor gardening tips to keep your plants lush and healthy. Light is the one thing you cannot skimp on. Without this essential ingredient your plants will wither and die. Each and every plant have different requirements so for one indoor gardening tips here is some things to look for when shopping for houseplants. Ask the person at the nursery center how much light the plants you are consider will need. Some plants need direct sunlight while others crave indirect sunlight. For a direct sun plant, place the container near a window that faces south. For indirect plants they can be placed near a window but keep them far enough away so their foliage will not burn. Plants that require little light, like philodendrons, African Violets or ferns, can be arranged anywhere in the room as long as a little natural light filters in. Indoor gardening tips on watering your plants are always needed. If you over-water your plants you are subjecting them to insects and disease and you will eventually kill it. Over-watering will also rot the roots. Plants hate wet feet. Once you have discussed the watering needs with the nurseryman invest a small amount of money into a water gauge. The gauge will tell you the moisture level of the plants soil. They are extremely helpful in deciding whether to water or not and really only cost a little money, a very wise investment. Another indoor gardening tip is to fertilize. At the nursery center they fertilized the plants to encourage them to grow so they can sell them to you. If you do not fertilize your plants they will droop and wither. Find out from the center or from the internet what each plants feeding schedule should be. The secret to keep happy, lush plants is to feed them on a regular basis. You want to keep a close eye on each plant for any pests. If you find pests on one plant isolate it from the rest and treat it immediately. Try not to use pesticides on your plants especially if it is a plant you will eat, like herbs. A very good pesticide free natural formula for eradication of pests is: In a jar, combine 1 teaspoon dishwashing liquid and 1 cup vegetable oil. Shake vigorously. In an empty spray bottle, combine 2 teaspoons of this mixture and 1 cup water. Use at ten-day intervals (or more often if needed) to rid plants of whiteflies, mites, aphids, scales, and other pests. If you follow these few indoor gardening tips you will have beautiful houseplants that enliven every room. Take time to enjoy your indoor garden. Let it relax and soothe you, after all thats why you planted an indoor garden. Happy Gardening! Copyright Mary Hanna, All Rights Reserved. Abdominoplasty Primer: What is a Tummy Tuck?

Saturday, January 26th, 2008

By Arturo Ronzon Abdominoplasty is more commonly known as a tummy tuck, and is a serious surgical procedure. Essentially what a tummy tuck is, is the removal of excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen as well as a tightening of the abdominal wall muscles. The appearance of a protruding abdomen can be dramatically reduced by a tummy tuck procedure. Getting a tummy tuck done will leave a permanent scar on your body, which can extend from hip to hip but will sometimes be smaller. It is important to know everything you can about the procedure before considering any surgery, as there is no surgery that comes without risks. The following is a run down of what you need to know and consider before deciding whether or not to undergo surgery for a tummy tuck. The purpose of a tummy tuck is to remove large fat deposits and loose abdominal skin that will not respond to normal diet and exercise regimens. Many women who have had multiple pregnancies and in doing so, have stretched their abdominal muscles and skin beyond the point of returning to normal, can make use of the tummy tuck procedure to return their tummies to their original shape. Patients who intend to lose weight, or gain weight (as though pregnancy or otherwise) should not go through with the procedure right away. Before you decide to have surgery, consider all of your options carefully and discuss your expectations with your surgeon to ensure that a tummy tuck is the right procedure for you. The most important thing to be aware of, is that all surgery carries uncertainly and risk in some form. Thousands of tummy tucks are performed successfully every year, but there are always risks associated with surgeries, and there are specific complications that are associated with the tummy tuck procedure. There is a risk of post operative complications, like infection and blood clots. These complications are rare, but possible so they should be considered thoroughly. A complete tummy tuck generally lasts between two and five hours, but it depends on the extent of the work that is required for each individual body. Partial tummy tucks or mini tummy tucks tend to take only around an hour or two. First, the surgeon makes a long incision from hipbone to hipbone, then a second incision in order to free the navel from the surrounding tissue. The incision is much shorter with a mini tummy tuck. Next, the surgeon will separate your skin from the abdominal wall, lifting a large skin flap to reveal the vertical muscles along your abdomen. These muscles are pulled closer together in order to tighten them, and they are stitched into the new position to provide a narrower waistline and a firmer abdominal wall. Next, the skin flap is stretched down over the stomach, removing the extra skin. A new hole is cut for your navel which is then stitched into its place. The incisions are stitched and dressings are applied at the end, and a temporary tube is sometimes affixed in order to drain any excess fluid that may try to build up in the surgical site. For the first few days following the tummy tuck surgery, your abdomen will be swollen and you’re likely to be in a bit of pain or discomfort, which can be gradually controlled by medicine and which will slowly wane over time. You could be released within a few hours of the surgery, or they may keep you in the hospital for a few days depending on how your body reacts to the event. It could take as many as a few months to feel like your old self again following your tummy tuck. It is important to be in the best possible physical condition before the surgery if you want to bounce back quickly. Exercise will help you to heal better following the surgery, so consider adopting an exercise program in order to reduce swelling, tone muscles and lower the chance of blood clots. I Wonder What Really Did Happen at Church Camp?

Friday, January 25th, 2008

By Dottiedee Glass Dottiedee here sharing, I Remember as this is my story dear to my heart, may we all find our lesson contained within the words on this page. When growing up as a child we lived on a farm in South Central Nebraska. We attended church very faithfully. Every summer they had Bible Camp for the children of the church. One I attended was 200 miles from home. To be so far away for a whole week was frightening for my first time away from home. I was 13 or 14 when we had a special girls class. The purpose of the class was to teach us how to become a Godly Woman Pleasing to God! It was taught by one of the preachers wives. We were taught the virtues of a Godly woman according to the Bible. We learned women are to be meek, quite and silent in church. We learned they are to be in sub-mission to God, the church and to their husbands. We were to be young women obeying our Daddys. We were to obey them or pay the consequences of a whipping and in the same way we were to obey our husbands as they are like our Daddys they know best. After all Jesus obeyed God even to dying on the cross, so we were to obey the authority of the church and our husbands. We learned the church authority can tell a woman how to dress, how to wear her hair, how to not wear jewels and above all to be silent in the church service as she is to learn from her husband while at home. We learned as young women that men are the rulers and women are the ruled. We learned that men make all of the big decisions. Yes, women could make decisions about taking care of the children, we didnt have to ask if we should change a dirty diaper! We learned as young women we were not on the same level or rank as the men of the church. The men make all of the church decisions and women go along with their decisions silently. Why were we taught this kind of thing, men are superior and women are inferior? Who started this kind of thinking? What has this kind of dominator/dominated relationship done for our families, our children and our society? We learned that is Gods will, we learned not to question Gods will either. But what kind of person would it take to have one part of humanity rule/dominate over the other part of society, when both were created at the same time? What if there was a magic wand we could use to switch the dominator/dominated roles declared as Gods will to the opposite sex? How would the dominator feel about now being dominated? Would they take that role with out a dominator fight against it? Why did our religions of today get started with a dominator and dominated system? Does God really expect women to be ruled by men, and if so, what do we know about our God who has determined human societies should be based on a superior/inferior, dominator/dominated, intelligent/dumb, rule/drool, master/slave, head/heart, or leader/follower system? What has it created for our society to have part of the humans controlling, ruling, lording over the rest of the humans of this society? When of the dominator/dominated systems we have in our society has created hardships which create poor financial health and blemished credit? Are Online Dating Tests Reliable?

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

By Lawrence Andrews Nowadays, more and more people are finding online dating a remarkable way of gaining new friends, companions, or love mates. As it grows at breakneck speed, the online dating industry has devised a new way of services for their members and even non-members. Many online dating sites are offering the so-called online dating tests. Most of these online dating tests are about personality and compatibility. They range from the simple to most complex questions but all are designed to give people the results that might help them on their online dates. However, even if it gained tremendous popularity, many experts contend that online dating tests are not that reliable. In fact, many psychologists contend that the reliability and efficiency of online dating tests is less than 50%. This means that, when the results of an online dating test concerning compatibility state that the person who tried the test and the person being paired say they are compatible, chances are, only half of it is true. Why Were They Created? Because of the unprecedented growth of online dating and the increasing demand for matchmaking, most of the online dating industry has come up with the concept of online dating tests in order to help with a better match. Hence, different online dating tests have emerged like personality tests and compatibility tests. Psychologists have asserted that when a person tried to access online dating tests and answered some questions, chances are, his or her answers will be affected by many outside factors such as feelings, attitude, mood, and context. This means that there are possibilities wherein a person may have two different answers on one given question if it will be asked on two different situations. For example, if an individual is feeling low or is heartbroken by the time he or she tried to answer an online dating test and answered them again on a different mood, chances are, the results may vary. Some psychologists explain that the reason for these discrepancies is that the Internet-based online dating test are only through self-evaluation and are not guided by reliable psychological assessment, which usually are done in clinical conditions. Therefore, for people who are fond of answering online dating tests, theres no problem on that. The problem arises if it will be the basis of something serious like marriage. Boiled down, these tests can be amusing but it should never be used by people in making decisions about love and relationship. Auto Loan - How to Get Approved for a Bad Credit Car Loan

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=L._Sampson]L. Sampson Auto loans are easier to get approved for than other, unsecured lines of credit because they are secured by the car you purchase. So, even with bad credit, its possible to get approved for a bad credit car loan. This article offers tips on getting approved for an auto loan with bad credit: Borrow Less Than the Car Is Worth If you have bad credit, lenders are going to want to make sure that, even if you dont pay your loan, they can resale the car and get their money back. For this reason, its important that you take out a loan for less than the cars appraised amount. For example, if the car youre buying is worth $15,000, youll want to borrow less than that amount. Usually that means making a significant down payment. Making a down payment makes you less of a risk to a borrower, therefore improving your chances of being approved. Search for Lenders Online If the only place you search for a car loan is the car lot, then youre not going to know whether the rates theyre offering you are reasonable or not. Dealerships are notorious for telling people that they cannot get approved for a better loan because of their credit when, in reality, this is not true. Even with bad credit, on a secured loan you should be able to get a decent interest rate. Shop online before going to the car lot and get an idea of what type of loan you can get from other lenders. Make Timely Payments on Your Other Credit Accounts In the months before you apply for a car loan, make timely payment on your other credit accounts. Even if you just have a few months of timely payments prior to applying for an auto loan, it will look much better than applying for a loan with recent negative reporting from your other creditors. If you can prove that your poor payment history is a thing of the past, a lender is much more likely to approve your car loan. 8 Of The 1008 Critical Mistakes You Are Making At The Gym

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

By Geoff Kalmbach Over the years I have identified 28 mistakes that the majority of people working out make at some point in their journey. Instead of listing all of those I decided to be clich and create my top eight mistakes list. 1. Only focusing on cardio/aerobic activity. Too much aerobic activity can actually lead to muscle loss and lowering of ones metabolism. Be sure to include resistance training as well. 2. Poor form and tempo. Control the weight for a full one one thousand two one thousand on the way up and the way down . No momentum or herky jerky movements which can lead to injury. 3. You hold your breath while lifting weights. Holding your breath puts undue stress on your heart and can lead to fainting by inhibiting blood flow. Exhale as the muscle contracts (pushing part of a push up/pulling part of a pull up). 4. Over training. Whether its abs or legs dont perform the same exercises over and over again. For general fitness pick 2-3 different exercises per body part . Performing leg press/45 degree leg press/squats and leg extensions is overkill unless competing for Mr./Mrs. Olympia. 5. Not setting a goal. Think of it like this, imagine golfing and never shooting at the flag. 6. Never challenge yourself. Most clients are amazed at their accomplishments during our first couple of sessions. They had no idea their bodies were capable of performing such movements. This has nothing to do with crazy motivational techniques or performance enhancing drugs. All I do is ask them to do it. Our bodies are an amazing machine and will surprise you all the time if you just ask it to. Stay with in your limits but always push those limits SAFELY! 7.You lean on the cardio machines as you exercise. I love watching people hug the bikes and stair steppers or my personal favorite, max out incline on a treadmill and hang on for dear life. Do you want to burn an additional 100-200 calories a workout? LET GO! Use your arms and hands only for balance when absolutely necessary. If you have to hang on your going to fast . Slow down and concentrate on form. 8. Hour long ab workouts. I could have dedicated all eight slots to this particular mistake. Perform 3 exercises of 15-25 slow controlled reps for 2-3 sets and that is all you have to do. Understand one thing right from the get go - you all have abs. Some just have better conditioned abs than others. Be sure and focus on burning the fat off those abs with supportive nutrition and muscle sparing cardio. The hardest part of any fitness program is starting one. Dont get discouraged if you identified with a few of the things listed above, simply take the necessary steps to avoid them from now on. Keep it simple with an eye on progress each and every time you hit the gym. Geoff Kalmbach is a Fitness Expert, columnist, speaker, and Certified Fitness Professional. Stressful Relationships: The ‘Cardboard Image’ Effect

Monday, January 21st, 2008

By Nathalie Himmelrich Relationships with good friends are always wonderful. Is that true? Have you ever had the experience with someone you dearly like as a friend that it just feels exhausting to be with them sometimes? One reason might be the cardboard image effect. When you first meet another person you create a file in your head with the information you gather. Every time you meet, new information is added to the file. After a while you believe you know this person and you have some expectations on how they should behave. When the other person does not act based on the information on your file (your expectations) one reaction might be: But hey, on my file it says always happy, so why are you so annoyed? Another reaction might be: No, this is not the way I know you; youre supposed to behave like this. These reactions are directed at the card board image you have of someone else, their stored data on your file. And what does it look like from the other side? You might have a conversation where your friend is talking to your card board image instead of the ever changing you. They are referring to the you that they knew when you where in University together. This can be stressful, especially if there is a strong desire in your friend for you to BE the old self they are used to, your card board image, or a disappointment over the fact that you are not. You feel as if your friend is not really talking to you but a former variation of yourself. There is a sense of not being acknowledged for being yourself and you might want to say: Hello, Im no longer that person in University; I have developed since then So next time you meet up with a friend leave some space in your file to add more information on however that person presents in that moment anew. Nathalie Himmelrich is the founder of ‘Reach for the Sky Therapy’ (http://www.reachforthesky.com.au) on Sydney’s Northern Beaches and specialises in ‘relationship related issues’.
